Centralina WDB & NCWorks Career Center-Cabarrus Partner with Cabarrus County to Open New Satellite Center in Kannapolis
Jul 25, 2019
On Monday, June 3, 2019 staff from the Centralina WDB, the NCWorks Career Center-Cabarrus, Cabarrus County Department of Human Services (DHS), and members from area partner organizations gathered at DHS in Kannapolis for the Grand Opening of the new NCWorks Career Center satellite office.
The full-service Career Center is located at 1303 S. Cannon Blvd., in Kannapolis inside of the Cabarrus County Department of Human Services. For now, the Career Center will be open from 9 a.m. to noon every Monday.
There are seven computers and a smart board for jobseekers to utilize as well as two friendly NCWorks Centralina staff members ready to assist customers.
The idea to put a Career Center in DHS spawned when DHS director Karen Calhoun, invited NCWorks Centralina Career Center leader Denisha Torrence-Nesbit to join the newly formed Cabarrus H.U.B.B. initiative.
The Cabarrus H.U.B.B. is an initiative that aims to more effectively operate the human services delivery system in Cabarrus County. The project is a one-stop shop, physically and virtually, with centralized services and flexible multidisciplinary teams.
The Cabarrus H.U.B.B. is set to open this fall at the Cabarrus Dream Center located at, 280 Concord Parkway in Concord.
Diane Gridley, the Program Administrator at the Cabarrus County DHS said that the department wanted to create a “mini H.U.B.B.” at DHS and involve a few key partners in the community including NCWorks Centralina.
“We can’t do it alone at DHS and it requires all the community partners to assist,” said Gridley.
Opening of this Career Center has always been a dream for Torrence-Nesbit, “If we can spread the services, we touch more customers.”
